Blurb:
With a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. That is until she meets the legendary team captain—Alex Waters.Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match.
In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like.
The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.
Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: May 2015.Pucked is a funny, silly and a lot of times irreverent story about Violet Hall, talented accountant and step sister to superstar hockey player Buck Butterson, she knows all about the reputations of hockey players, fast sex, no commitments, a different woman to warm their bed each night, she's seen it all with her own eyes and she's not about to be some puck bunny, she's smarter than that. Until she meet Alex Waters that is, he is not only a incredibly sexy hockey player, but also captain of Buck's new team, all signs point to any interaction with Alex being a bad idea, but that's the thing about bad ideas...sometimes they can seem so right.
Pucked is definitely not a book for the uptight, it's humour is often silly, often crass, which I won't lie I find amusing, this is the kind of book I can slide into when I want to laugh like a loon, get swept up in story that can take me away from anything that is going on in my life and make me forget, it's silly and funny and sexy and irreverent, while still packing some heart, Pucked didn't change my life, it didn't change the way I view the world around me, but it made me giggle and at times fan my face, and as I turned the last pages I had a smile on my face and really when I pick up a new book sometimes that's all I need.
Alex is sexy, all toned muscle, god like body and a genuinely nice guy, he's never really subscribed to the puck bunny ideal, he doesn't need the constant bed hopping, or the adoration of screaming fans, with Violet he finally feels a sense of normalcy that this almost foreign to him. Violet is strong, she's smart, she's fallen for a the stereotypical hockey player before, using her for her connection to her step father and moving on to another woman when Violet was no longer any use to him, Violet was left hurt, her self esteem and worth battered, she's been down that path once before, and on top of that she's had a front row seat to all of Buck's conquests, she has every reason to believe that all hockey players are going to be the same, so as much as Alex is smarter than falling for a hockey player she can't help herself, and there in lies everything about this story.
Pucked is about two people rallying against what they've always believed to be true, two people who want each other desperately and yet reconciling what they've always believed. I thoroughly enjoyed my romp into this world Helena Hunting created, Violet and Alex were unabashedly silly and crude and sexy as hell, I spent two hours giggling to myself and unable to put it down, if you're looking for a book to make you giggle and laugh, to get you hot under the collar, and to leave a smile on your face, Pucked is definitely the book for you.
