Blurb:
College junior John Logan can get any girl he wants. For this hockey star, life is a parade of parties and hook-ups, but behind his killer grins and easy going charm, he hides growing despair about the dead-end road he’ll be forced to walk after graduation. A sexy encounter with freshman Grace Ivers is just the distraction he needs, but when a thoughtless mistake pushes her away, Logan plans to spend his final year proving to her that he’s worth a second chance. Now he’s going to need to up his game…
After a less than stellar freshman year, Grace is back at Briar University, older, wiser, and so over the arrogant hockey player she nearly handed her V-card to. She’s not a charity case, and she’s not the quiet butterfly she was when they first hooked up. If Logan expects her to roll over and beg like all his other puck bunnies, he can think again. He wants her back? He’ll have to work for it. This time around, she’ll be the one in the driver’s seat…and she plans on driving him wild.
Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: May 2015.Elle Kennedy seems to have a knack for writing a male pov, the back and forth and snappy banter between Logan's team had me giggling like a school girl with a crush the entire time. Garrett may have stolen my heart in The Deal but Logan very quickly grabbed my attention, man whore, cocky, arrogant - yep he's all that, but under all the bravado and quick wit is the kind of guy you want to simultaneously take home to meet your mother and keep chained to your bed. It isn't only young men Kennedy writes like a dream, Grace is the embodiment of the kind of girl I want to be when I grow up, she's strong, she's feisty, she's quirky.
There's a natural progression to the burgeoning relationship between Grace and Logan, seeing the two of them bond, watching the sweeter, softer side of Logan come out, he's loyal to a fault, and so incredibly strong, there's a tormented fragility that hides behind the sex on a stick body, and the big talking bravado, Logan has a selflessness about him, a need to self sabotage when things are going well, it's in moments like these that I want to climb into the pages so I can hug him and then kick his arse.
The Deal touched on some incredibly sensitive issues, in doing so, shining a light on them and starting a dialogue amongst readers, and The Mistake is no different, it takes a deeper look at a subject most of us like to hide away, keeping up appearances and more often than not pretending it isn't a problem. Confronting sensitive topics like this made me fall even deeper in love with this story, not just with Logan and Grace or even Garrett and Hannah but with the entire team, I was desperate for more information, for more of the story, for more of Kennedy's words, often urging me to speed up and simultaneously desperate to slow down, to revel in being lost in the story and the world Kennedy created, to savour every moment, every conversation, every look and every touch.
I went into The Mistake with high expectations, I wanted to dissolve into fits of giggles, I wanted to swoon over sexy hockey players, I wanted to get lost in a different world for a few hours, what I wasn't prepared for was just how deeply I would feel for Logan and Grace, how much my heart would squeeze for them, and how quickly I would fall in love with the effortless sexiness, sweetness and hilarity that is The Mistake, this is a series I will continue to pick up, flick through, re read my favourite highlighted passages and surrender to the absolute joy and heart melting love I felt the first time I turned the first page.
