Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2016.

I found the Bliss series three books in and I was immediately smitten, this rag tag bunch of strangers and well f*uck buddies and future partners would endear themselves to me, through the rest of the Bliss series I fell more and more in love with Harvey's characters, contemporary romance is often filled with alpha hero's, the one's who have the badboy swagger down pat, they leave a trail of wanting women in their wake, the Bliss series certainly has them, but more than that her stories have feature strong women, ones that have fallen and gotten back up, ones that see the world as equal opportunity for men and women, who refuse to conform to patriarchal stereotypes and want to break through that glass ceiling in both their personal and professional lives. When the author announced Game Player I was instantly intrigued, Matt Taylor, the Mini WD (that's Walking Dildo for readers new to Ms Harvey) the cocky and confident younger brother of Noah has a story to tell, the King of Hit It and Quit It, Matt certainly knows his way around the female form, he's earned himself quite the reputation for being a ladies man, one that up until now he's never had a problem with, but the older he gets, the more he sees his brother and this brothers friends settle down, the more that life doesn't seem so far away anymore.

Mia Roberts should be DO NOT DISTURB territory but as much as Matt has kept his distance, trying to do the honourable thing he's all out of reason to stay away anymore, his elder brother Noah being married to Mia's sister Zoe is complicated enough, but Mia's older brother Zander being married to Kate and a member of his own brother's close knit group of friends makes it even more complicated, not to mention dangerous to him if he's not sure about making the switch from one night to long term.

Mia has her own baggage that has left her weary of men, none more so than the irrepressible Matt Taylor, sure he's her sister's brother-in-law (it seriously isn't confusing once you dive in) and she knows deep down he's a good guy, but it's his intentions she's worried about, the more he shows interest in her the more she feels on edge, halfway between wanting to push him away and write him off as a womanising playboy and wanting to drag him to bed to find out if the legend matches the man...Matt is sexy and confident and rocks the dirty talk like no one else but she has to decide if she can trust him to be the kind of man who she dreams about, the type who will make her want picket fences and happily ever afters, but more than anything Mia needs to prove to herself that she deserves the same happiness her sister and brother have found by taking a step out of her comfort zone and giving Matt a chance to blow her mind both in and out of the bedroom.

BJ Harvey excels in Game Player, her ability to write Rom Com's that have you giggling and swooning and holding your breath is clearly evident, her ability to transcend that sexy time line with aplomb, often with this genre I find myself aimlessly skimming my way through repetitive sex scenes, sure they generate heat but I find myself silently chanting  *give me more story* and yet Harvey gives you the kind of intimate moments that range from the deliciously dirty to the sweetly sensual all the while further building the story and aiding in the readers ability to invest in these characters. Game Player was a breath of fresh air after a run of heavy titles that left me desperate for a reprieve, Mia had this endearing quality to her that made me want to wrap her in my arms and help her work her way through her confusion and doubt, and yet her partying ways made her the kind of girl I wanted to grab a cocktail with, Matt despite his early days of playing the field showed that when he found something he wanted he was willing to do anything and everything in his power to get his way, the first book in the Game series has already left me itching for more.

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2016.

It's an interesting concept, one story written by thirteen authors, sure I've read plenty of anthologies - compilations of several authors individual work, I've even several co-written books, those written by two authors under a pen name and others written by two established authors who for whatever reason have decided to come together for a project, but even with all of that, thirteen authors writing together to form one cohesive story is ground breaking, taking those build your own stories from primary school where you would write a line before passing it on to your friend to continue around a circle a whole new meaning. Creating a fun adventure seemed possible with the calibre of authors taking part, but having Verity and Hudson's voices consistent through out well that was another ask entirely.

From the very first page Verity with her quirky and sometimes downright odd work place was endearing, her boss while exceptionally good looking was creeptactular in the best possible way, never freakishly scary where the hairs on your neck stood up, but so odd that he almost seemed normal...almost.... every interaction with Larold Lay had me twitching and yet desperate to know what was in the box...no this isn't reminiscent of SE7EN but my curiosity was most definitely piqued, everything about him screamed that he was hiding secrets that would ultimately leave me with widened eyes crooning ewwwwww....

Where Lay was intriguing in that odd way, Hudson was the kind of hero you couldn't help but want to know more about, with his bright eyes and charming smile, arms full of ink that gave him just enough of an edge to match that smooth criminal, sure he seemed to be hiding his own secrets but instead of creeping me out or making me twitch all it did was make me more curious for what was to come next.

Felony Ever After was a fast paced, sexy romp into the life of Verity, a young woman who was stuck in a job she didn't enjoy and with a boss who annoyed her at every turn, a run in with a man covered in tattoo's and a taxi cab one night had the propensity to alter the course of her life, and gave her a reason to think outside of her less than exciting life and imagine something better. Verity's voice was delightful, with a perfect blend of humour and steam this book had me giggling through out, as well as reuniting me with authors I love and introducing me to authors I had never read before, seamlessly executed Felony Ever After was the perfect easy read, that left me sated, with a smile on my face.

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2016.

I threw out a challenge in my reader group this past weekend, to give me book recommendations on something light, fun, sexy, something with heart and heat and humour, Rules of Protection was thrown into the ring, I knew the name was familiar, it had graced my social media newsfeed repeatedly over the last year, when I checked my kindle I realised I had actually purchased it way back in December 2014, and now sitting here after staying up reading it in one sitting late into the night, I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to dive into Emily and Jake's story.

Emily is out with her two closest friends celebrating her birthday, all she really wants is to have a good time and maybe even end the night with a sweaty session between the sheets to ring in another year, things are looking promising in the upscale club she's partying at, meeting sexy Jake who both rattles and intrigues her, a man she could definitely envision spending a sexy night with... until she stumbles upon a murder taking place, suddenly she's on the run, and being whisked off into witness protection in order to keep her safe from the very real threat of retribution.

Emily is feisty, sassy and smart mouthed, she's been through a harrowing adventure already and running into repeated security breaches and attempted execution attempts only adds to the emotional toll she's already feeling, as much as Jake frustrates and pushes her she can't help the building connection and explosive chemistry growing between them, their tenuous bond only strengthened by their close proximity. Jake has one objective: to keep Emily alive and safe, with his technical experience and knowledge of the land - Jake should have an advantage, unfortunately for him Emily is spirited to put it mildly, constantly challenging him and pushing him beyond his limits, their relationship, their snarky banter, flirty comments, downright argumentative tirades, and quick witted zingers to one another had me giggling and swooning and sucking in breath along with them both, not only does Bliss create a hero and heroine that are impossible not to love but created a cast of characters that only added to this story, turning the last page and seeing that my beloved Cowboy is next to get his story made me an excited mess, running to #1click the next story in the Tangled in Texas series.

Rules of Protection was exactly what I needed, funny and light hearted, sexy and swoony, action packed, from the moment I picked it up I was invested, I was desperate for more, Bliss's words were utterly engaging, her story the perfect escape, with everything perfectly balanced, Jake and Emily's story is one I won't soon forget.

Drop Dead Sexy by Katie Ashley - ARC Review

Blurb:

For Olivia Sullivan, love is more a four letter curse word than a sentiment. Growing up as the daughter of a small town mortician, guys didn’t warm to the fact there were dead people in her house. At thirty, taking over the family business and becoming the town Coroner helped to cement her undateable status. Of course her past sex history didn’t help matters either.

Attempt number one with her first love ended barely before it got started with a horrific latex allergy hospitalization. Attempt number two had him coming and then going with an undiagnosed heart condition. For the past three years, Olivia has closed up shop for fear of what might happen next in the bedroom.

After being forced to go single to her mother’s lingerie shower, Olivia stumbles into an out of town bar with one intention: find an able bodied stud to go home with to end her losing sex streak. Enter Holden Caulfield Mains aka Catcher, who earned his nickname not just from the book he was named for, but for the fact he was sure to catch the attention any woman who came within a five mile radius. Waking up after a night of the most mind blowing sex she could have ever imagined, a horrified Olivia runs away thinking she’s left Catcher behind.

When Olivia’s small town is wracked by its first murder, she never could have imagined her one night stand would reappear in the form of the GBI’s lead investigator. To her mortification, Catcher isn’t ready to let go of their sizzling chemistry, and he doesn’t understand the meaning of no. As things start to heat up between them, the body count starts to rise, and they’re led on a wild goose chase from back woods mountain Nudist Colonies to altercations with the Dixie Mafia. Can Olivia and Catcher survive to solve the murder while also not succumbing to their explosive passion?

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2016.

People often lament about having bad luck with sex and relationships, it's often a joke or two at their own expense about a guy that kisses liked a fish, or one that gets a little too excited a little too quickly if you catch my drift, we've all had those moments in he past where we look back and cringe and try to erase the memory of said event from our minds, for Olivia Sullivan, well she's had more bad luck than most. From the very first page I was giggling and doing that awkward cringe we do when something goes so horrendously wrong that you can't help but laugh, despite knowing you shouldn't. After too many years of back luck and self imposed abstinence Olivia is ready to get back on the horse so to speak, in a backwoods town where no one knows her name, or her past, she meets Catcher Mains, he's confident, sexy, charismatic and within only moments of meeting her can read her like a book. Life is all about fun and adventure right? Throwing caution to the wind sounds like the perfect remedy to a life that's become stagnant and boring, shedding off her usual coroner digs Olivia is going to get back in the saddle and Catcher is just the man she needs.

One night stands are meant to be fun and frivolous, filled with hours of mutual pleasure, and in the morning you're supposed to go your separate ways, or at least that's how she thinks they are supposed to go, but when a local ends up dead from a gunshot wound, clearly a sign of foul play Olivia, resident mortician and county coroner is called up to bat. In a town that hasn't seen a homicide in years, the only option is to call in agents from the GBI, that's Georgia Bureau of Investigations, when none other that the man who rocked her world, Catcher Mains, walks into her crime scene - Olivia is stuck somewhere between wanting to recreate every dirty and delicious detail of their night together and wanting to punch him in the face for not telling her who he was.

Olivia has without a doubt had a good life, not withstanding her unfortunate luck in the dating department, she has a family she loves, a cousin who's like a sister and a small town who love and support her, but despite all of the good she has she can't help wishing for the day she finds someone to settle down with, build a life and a family with and it's in those moments when you truly feel the connection growing and deepening between Olivia and Catcher that you can't help but hope that she has finally found her man. Everything about Catcher was instantly likable, he had confidence and swagger in spades, there was no bad boy waiting for the good girl to turn him, Catcher was inherently good, with that perfect blend of sexy alpha male cockiness that made him utterly irresistible. Between their sizzling chemistry, Olivia's quirky family and quite frankly down right odd victims, associates and suspects I knew I was in for a treat. My only complaint was that I found myself skimming through the copious sex scenes to get more of Catcher and Olivia's witty banter, to watch them fall for each other just a little bit more, overall Drop Dead Sexy was a hilarious, sexy fun filled romp intermixed with murder and intrigue, the perfect blend of romantic comedy, erotic romance, suspense and humour, Ashley reminded me exactly why I #1click her books without thinking, because she creates these characters that you can't help but love.

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2016.

Chloe Madison had the kind of life most people envied, growing up with wealth beyond most people's expectations, a boyfriend most women fawned over Vic Worth, who's wealth exceeded her own families, two best friends Cammie and Benta, who not only understood the perks of growing up entitled but lived it everyday not to mention being able to call New York City home. Finding out the man of your dreams couldn't keep it in his pants, cheating on you with none other than the hired help was one thing, walking in to see it for yourself quite entirely another, but the absolute icing on the cake, being evicted from your home after finding out your parents had been diddling the finances and unabashedly being knee deep in insider trading. In an instant Chloe's world crumbled, between sleeping on a friends couch, and figuring out how exactly to move on from here, Chloe goes from a life of wealth and excess to a role she never dreamt she'd have to play, one of the hired help.

Becoming a personal assistant for Nicole Brantley wasn't all sunshine and roses, wading her way through the murky waters that is Nicole's life, fending off advances from the man that once upon a time she envisioned to be her knight in shining armour Vic, rattling the feathers of Hollywood's playboy Joey Plazen on set, and navigating exactly what is building between her and her sexy super Carter is all in a days work for Chloe V.2.0

Originally released in serial form as The Cosmo episodes, Ms Torre decided to breath new life into Chloe's story, we immediately meet the Chloe who is down on her luck and trying desperately to build a life for herself, outside of obligation to her parents, without her ex's love or financial support, as she juggles memories from her old life, with expectations of how her life should of panned out after graduating college, to the place she finds herself now, we see a myriad of obstacles and emotions thrown her way. From the girl who could fix any problem with the swipe of her trusty AMEX to one who had to penny pinch to secure enough of a deposit to look for a place to call her own, while Chloe never truly hit so rock bottom that she was destitute, and completely alone, for an upbringing such as hers it certainly felt like she had.

Torre paints a veritable tapestry of rich characters that dominate this story, aside from Chloe, her friends Cammie and Benta may have been the epitome of the rich girl stereotype, ones that could jet away at the drop of a hat for a tropical holiday, that's where the similarities ended, they were fiercely protective of their friend, giving both moral and emotional support when needed, while allowing Chloe to figure out what she needed to do and where she needed to go. Joey, the Hollywood star was without cocky and self involved but he also saw something more to Chloe than just a rich girl that fell from grace, Vic, despite his asshole tendencies and inability to sate his wandering eye, had his heart mostly in the right place and Carter...swoon...Carter was the kind of guy you wanted to introduce to your mother, and drag to your bedroom and tie to your bed, he was strong and masculine in a way that left you feeling protected and taken care of, and yet self assured and confident enough that when he spoke you paid attention, everything deliberate, every word considered.

"When I was little, my mom told you should find a man who loved you more than you loved him. That way, she explained, you would never get hurt. In theory, it made sense. But now, I believed the beauty of love was in the loving."

Love, Chloe was a sexy, fun filled romp into the inner sanctum of rich and famous, but more than that, Torre weaved a beautiful message through out, reminding us that life is about far more than material possessions and pre-conceived expectations. Chloe was a dichotomy of characteristics that usually fall either end of a spectrum, strong willed and weak, rich and poor, confident and unsure, ready to take life by the horns and yet scared to take the first step, her belief that there was something broken inside if her didn't deter her from taking steps to cement a future of independence for herself, there were moments where she questioned her decisions, her moral compass, her worth but ultimately made decisions on how best to move herself forward with the least amount of collateral damage. Everything about Torre's latest work was a joy to read, and I found myself effortlessly lost in her words, living vicariously through Chloe's eyes, reminding me that when life hands you lemons, the best course of action is to call your friends to bring the vodka and have a party.

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2016.

I became obsessed with Shannon and Declan over the course of a few days, I started on book one needing a break from heavy, emotionally draining titles, I binge read seven books in a row, desperate for more of this couple, Shannon was hilarious, quirky and exactly what I needed, the chemistry she shared with Declan was off the charts, sizzlingly sexy, irresistible, when I reached the end, I waited desperately for the next chapter in their lives together. Shopping for a Billionaire's Wife picked up right where the previous book left off, with Declan and Shannon escaping their wedding from hell. I think as women we're conditioned to dream of our wedding days, I myself had a wedding far bigger that I ever expected, coming from a small family I had always envisioned something small, intimate, my husband and his family had other plans, while my guest list reached only 400, a small cry from the over a thousand Shannon was expecting, in my moments of panic leading up to my special day I understood her need to run far away, taking with her only the clothes on her back and her soon to be husband, thankfully my special day ended sans the great escape that Shannon's had, being privy to a front row seat as Declan and Shannon navigated momzilla, an extravagant bridal budget and an air chase that had the TSA on alert was the perfect reminder of why I fell in love with this series in the first place.

I was expecting a funny, wild ride for Shannon and Declan in the latest instalment of their story, and while I certainly got that, I was blown away by Kent's ability to make me feel every second of their confusion, doubt and even fear as they navigated the road they found themselves on, both growing up in two completely different worlds, one of wealth and expense, where nothing was ever wanted for, but lacked that feeling of a close knit family, compared to one where financial constraints dictated so many choices, and yet one where the familial bond was so strong that it was almost stifling. The true beauty of this story was gaining insight into their relationship, from beyond their sexual chemistry, far beyond the quirky Shannon and business mogul Declan, being able to revel in the foundation of their relationship left me swooning and sighing, because for all of Declan's self assured silence, stood a man who truly knew Shannon, saw her like so few people before had.

"I was about to tell you that you're stronger than you think, but those aren't the right words...People say that all the time - you're stronger than you think. What they mean is that you have to learn to suck it up. That's not strength. That's being groomed to accept suffering.  You Shannon, are more powerful than you think."

Despite Declan's wealth, and Shannon's truly crazy mother, there was a sense of realism here, beyond the fanciful locations they found themselves in, their journey both together and alone was mesmerising, it never felt abstract for me, I felt as though I truly knew these characters, I was laughing and cheering with every tiny scrap of ground they made, every time Shannon said no to her meddling mother, every time they squirreled away time together seeming to outwit their entourage, every time Shannon ninja'ed her way into another secret latte, but more than that when those moments came along where Declan and Shannon took an honest look at who they are and tried to decide what they needed from each other I silently smiled to myself, heart full to bursting, because these two just got it, inherently they understood that there's more to fancy cars, and nice clothes, and fighting over how extravagant gifts should be. Kent took this fun, sexy tale and gave it a depth that made it so darn easy to read. For lovers of this series Shopping for a Billionaire's Wife was uproariously funny, I found myself giggling into my pillow, desperately trying to stifle the loud guffaws so as to not wake my sleeping husband, not only did Kent leave me deliciously stated and yet simultaneously desperate for more of Andrew and Amanda and whatever comes next for this crazy bunch.
