RWDU - Gold Coast, March 2015

In the early hours of Thursday morning my husband and I started in on the almost 10 hour drive to the Gold Coast for the second RWDU event. After a quick detour to pick up one of my favourite people in the world, Carmen Jenner, we were ready to descend on Surfers Paradise for three fun filled days.

From check in, to author registration to catching up with good friends over a few wines and a gourmet Lebanese bbq compliments of my chef hubby.

Friday morning saw an early start with breakfast with Abbi Glines and Addam Bramich and a small group of Abbi's Army members, and a quick chat over coffee with the lovely Natasha Tomic.

On to Panels, where the gracious and talented Kristen Ashley discussed her writing and publishing journey. Answering questions about her prolific career, Kristen cemented her place as an author to admire and respect.
The quote of the day from KA: "if you need to soar, you soar on your own."

Following that I was afforded the opportunity to take part in the panel discussing blogging with some of my favourites, Kylie - Give Me Books, Natasha - Natasha is a Book Junkie and author Lynette Noni.

Readers, bloggers and authors were able to sit in on panels discussing everything from marketing and promotion, to social media etiquette from Best Selling authors and industry professionals. One of my favourites being Rockers, Bikers & Alphas - Fun Facts featuring TK Leigh, Carmen Jenner, KM Golland and Chantal Fernando.

Friday night saw a trivia night with proceeds going to charity, and no doubt many authors furiously making any last minute preparations for the signing the following day.

Up bright and early Saturday morning for set up, I had the pleasure of assisting Carmen Jenner throughout the day, talking to readers, taking photos and talking about books I adore and an author I respect.

Hundreds of readers made their way to authors around the room, stopping to chat, take photos and collect autographs, I was lucky enough to have my husband Michael collect my books for me as you can see below.

The signing was followed by a formal dinner and awards night after party, where the wine flowed and photo booth craziness ensued. Authors and bloggers were recognised for their contribution to the industry with Readers Choice awards across different genres and categories. Winners including Kristen Ashley, Abbi Glines, Kylie Scott, Carmen Jenner, Kirsty  Dallas, Jay McLean, KM Golland, TJ Hamilton, Lesley Jones and Natasha Tomic to name a few.

What followed was plenty of photo op's, drinks, conversation, photo booth silliness and dancing. A great night had by all attendee's.

A quiet dinner on Sunday night after  spending the day catching up on sleep, wandering around Surfers Paradise and last catch ups with friends over drinks was the perfect way to end a fantastic weekend.

A huge thank you to Jodie, Rose & Kylie for executing a fantastic event, the amount of work and dedication that goes into bringing an weekend like this to fruition was clearly evident, and to their team of volunteers, your enthusiasm did not go unnoticed. Looking forward to more events taking place in Australia, where we can celebrate our combined love of reading and the written word.

After almost 12 hours on the road, this blogger is ready for bed, Sydney, I'm home.

DEEP (Stage Dive #4) by Kylie Scott - Pre Release Day Blitz

DEEP excerpt:

His laughter, it didn’t really sound the smallest bit amused. “Christ. You’re done here.”

“Ah, no. I’m actually not. Now see, this is where we have a problem.” I folded my arms. Then unfolded them because like fuck I’d look defensive. He was the one in the wrong, not me. “You’re not prepared to take me, or my feelings, seriously. What you want is to hide away in Mr. Too Cool for Commitment land and just play with my affections when it suits you. Okay, I’ve accepted that. But none of that means it’s okay for you to come in here and act like you’re the boss of me. None of it.”

“That so?” he asked, leaning down so that we were almost nose to nose.

“That’s so, baby.” I play-punched him in the shoulder, which it should be noted, I barely came up to. Okay, so maybe the alcohol on a mostly empty stomach had made me slightly/lots braver/sillier. “So why don’t you take your little caveman jealous tantrum bullshit somewhere else. See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”

He just stared.

“And as pretty as you are with your beard and your muscles, you are too damn tricky and . . . complicated and shit for me.”

“I am?”

“Yes, you are. Are you finally seeing my point here?”

“You bet.”

“Excellent. So take your hotness elsewhere, kind sir. I want no part of it!” Huh. I had so told him. Drunken bravado was the best.

I run my fingertips over the blue-and-silver paintwork as I walk toward the back end. Bending over, I start poking around, taking a look at the engine.

“Please tell me that you’re my birthday present.”

The Irish drawl has the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.

I turn my head to find Carrick Ryan standing behind me.

Oh. Wow.

He’s definitely better looking in the flesh than on television. I knew he was attractive. But blonds aren’t usually my thing. I’m more of a dark-hair-and-dark-eyes kind of girl.

But his dirty-blond hair, blue eyes laced with sin, and full lips—the kind of lips you spend hours sucking on—and that chiseled jaw decorated with stubble…yep, it all seems to be working for me. Well, my body anyway. Definitely not my head. Man-sluts are not my thing.

My eyes meet with his as he lifts them from blatantly staring at my arse. The look in them hits me straight in the gut, surprising the hell out of me. His eyes are profoundly blue and filled with heat. My skin starts to prickle as his intense stare burns me up.

I’ve never had such an instant visual reaction to a man before.

Take it easy, Andi. This isn’t a problem. You’ve met good-looking men before. You can turn this off. Drivers are a no-go area, especially ones you work for.

My job is too important to lose over a man.

Straightening, I turn to face him.

“Hello,” I say in my most confident and formal voice.

I get nothing back, and that’s because he hasn’t heard me. He’s too busy staring at my breasts.

Typical man.

I have the sudden urge to punch him in his handsome face.

But I won’t because I’m a professional. I’ll handle this in the best way I know when it comes to dealing with pervy dickheads like him.

“It’s your birthday?” I say sweetly, my smile a little on the flirtatious side.

He grins. “It sure is, and it’s definitely looking up now that you’re here. Are you going to make it extra special for me, sugar?”

He thinks he’s about to get lucky.

Far from it. Smarmy twat.

I tilt my head to the side, keeping the flirty smile on my face, as I walk up to him until there’s very little space between us. I press my fingers to his chest. God, that’s firm. I can feel the ridge of his muscles underneath my fingertips.

He’s tall, too, a good few inches higher than my five-nine. I’d say he’s six-one, which is tall for a driver, but he’s lean. He needs to be to fit into those cars. I bet, under those clothes of his, there’s nothing but toned muscle. Drivers have to be seriously fit, and Carrick Ryan certainly ticks that box on both counts.

Now, I’m imagining him naked. Great. Just fucking great.

I force my focus back to the now. “Well…” I lean in closer to him, hearing him suck in a sharp breath. I lower my voice as I whisper, “If you ever call me sugar again, you won’t see your next birthday. That’s for sure.”

He tilts his head back in amusement. “Feisty. I like it.”

I take a step back, dropping my hand from his chest. “There’s nothing here for you to like.”

His eyes run the length of me, lingering on my legs, the lusty look firing in them again. “I see plenty to like. Jesus…your legs go on forever.”

I wish I had something to hide my legs behind. Instead, I fold my arms to bring his focus up. “I’m not your type.”

Lifting his eyes back to mine, he gives me a confident smile. “Amazing arse. Great stems. Awesome rack. Beautiful face. Yep”—he nods—“you’re definitely my type.”

Prick (A Stepbrother Romance) by Sabrina Paige

I can't stop thinking about that prick.

Caulter Sterling is a prick.

A filthy-mouthed, womanizing, crude, spoiled, arrogant prick.

The tattooed, pierced, panty-melting-hot son of a celebrity.

I hate him.

He's slept his way through practically every girl at Brighton Academy.

Except for me.

I'm the good girl. The responsible girl. The 4.0, class president, studied-so-much-she-never-lost-the-big-V girl.

And in celebration of graduation and adulthood, I just made the worst decision in the history of ever.

I lost my V-card to the devil himself.

It was just one night. So what if it was mind-blowing? Hit it and quit it.

Except I just found out that my father - the Senator, the Presidential hopeful - is marrying Caulter's mother. Oh, and this summer? We're hitting the campaign trail.

One big happy family.

I'm totally f**ked.

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: March 2015.

There seems to be a slew of step brother style romances hitting bookshelves lately and I've been reticent to pick one up, but I stumbled across the blurb for Prick and I was instantly intrigued. Caulter Sterling seemed to be a cocky badboy and Katherine Harrison the perfect step ford daughter who's desperate to break her perfect image if only for one night.

Katherine is the epitome of the perfect daughter, good grades, smart, well put together, conservative, as her high school life at an elite boarding school comes to an end, she decides to live a little and partake in some extra curricular activities, calling on the resident man whore Caulter to rid her of her pesky virginity unbeknownst to him. One night to step out of her well manicured box before she spends a long summer at home with her Senator ex Army father and his regimented life. What was supposed to be one night free of the dutiful glare of her father and her pristine predetermined life ends in ruin, when she returns home after graduation to discover her father is set to wed none other than Caulter's mother.

The snarky banter, and sizzling chemistry between these two is off the charts, I'm a huge fan of enemies to lovers stories and Paige pulls Prick off flawlessly. The perfect blend of humor and heat, this book had me simultaneously wiping my eyes and fanning my face. There is more to these two than meets the eye, Katherine may have to censor how she behaves and continue to be the dutiful daughter in public but her feisty, sarcastic responses to Caulter and his prickish ways had me laughing and cheering her on. Watching the bond between these two shift from one of primal lust to something deeper had me invested in not only the characters but the story. Prick was the perfect book to pull me out of my reading induced hangover - light, funny and sexy, this was a joy to read.

The Deal (Off Campus #1) by Elle Kennedy - Review

She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy...

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

...and it’s going to be oh so good.

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Kristine's Review:

Reviewed: March 2015.

The Deal was my first book by Elle Kennedy, and as I sit here writing this review I ask myself why I have never picked up one of her books before. This college age drama revolves around two fairly stereotypical characters, the sexy, man whorish, jock Garrett Graham and the smart, savvy yet quiet Hannah Wells, this is however where the stereotype ends. Garrett may be everything I just described, but in addition to that he's also intelligent, funny, and caring. Hannah is not a nerd nor a sorority girl, she's smart, dedicated to her studies, and a talented music major.

When almost the entirety of her philosophy class flunks an exam, including the sexy as sin Garrett, Hannah's stellar grades and grasp on this tricky subject make her the perfect person to tutor him, there by securing his spot on his beloved ice hockey team. Despite her non interest in becoming involved with Garrett, his social connections, and in turn his ability to put her in the path of her long time crush football player Justin Kohl is too hard to pass up.

What I adored so much in this story is the witty banter between Garrett and Hannah, he's cocky as hell, but she is never one to back down, snarky, sarcastic jibes at one another, an undeniable chemistry draws you in instantly. Where Kennedy could have kept this story incredibly light and airy, she instead created such fully developed characters, characters that have baggage and pasts full of secrets and hurts, serving to further enamour me with not only the hero and heroine but will the story building around them. Dealing with topics will sensitivity and courage The Deal despite being at times hilarious packs an emotional punch.

As a reader I love picking up a title that you can sink your teeth into, that draws you in effortlessly and takes you on a rollercoaster ride with it, there is a beautiful fragility in watching two people learn to let go and trust one another beyond rhyme or reason, but more than that it's joyous to read a book that has you so invested in the characters that you crave their interactions, long to read their thoughts and experience their story flipping through the pages as you struggle to slow down to savour their journey.

I went into The Deal almost blind, I had no more of an idea of what it was about than a college drama, and yet within the first page my tummy was filling with that nervous energy that always hits when I discover something special, this may have been my first novel by Elle Kennedy but it certainly wont be my last.

Revue by KM Golland - Cover Reveal

Book: Revue
Author:  KM Golland
Release Date: May 29th, 2015
Image: Shannon Robinson Photography
Cover Design: Buying Ham
Hosted by: Book Empire Promotions

He was on a collision course.
… I had paved my way
He answered to no one.
… I respected authority
He wanted me.
… I despised him
He didn’t take no for an answer.
... NO!

When freelance photographer, Corinne Lee, is required to visually document the nationwide tour of Wild Nights Male Revue, she finds herself in a world of near-naked, testosterone-fuelled men on stage—not her photographic muse of choice. She also finds herself in the arms of Josh, the revue’s star performer.

Josh Adams thrives on the limelight, the stage and, most of all, the attention of women who endlessly throw themselves at him. He dances sex, speaks sex, breathes sex … is sex! Josh lives for sex, but never with the same woman.

When both opinionated and headstrong characters are closely thrust together in a lust-ridden and sexually-charged environment, which of the two will break first?
Will Josh realise that Corinne could be the exception to his ‘no strings’ rule? Or will Corinne let go of the fantasy of finding Mr One and Only?

I glanced down, spying his sweat shorts and also noticing that he wasn’t wearing a t-shirt. Fuck the stars, he has a fine body. My cheeks flushed. Yes, I felt them heat and no doubt turn pink with embarrassment.
“You want to wrap your lips around my cock, don’t you?” he asked with a low tone, snapping my eyes to meet his. “Go ahead, I’d like to know what the back of your throat feels like.”
Staring at him for what seemed like an eternity, I went from completely blown away by how bold and disgustingly crude he was, to being offended and ready to kick him in the balls again, to knowing exactly what he was doing. His conceited expression—the high arched eyebrow and devilish smirk—was an obvious giveaway that he was trying to unsettle me … press my buttons. “You’re disgusting, and you have absolutely no tact. And I know what you’re doing, Josh. It’s not going to work. I’m not taking you salty, slimy bait.”
He laughed. “My salty, slimy bait, huh?”
“Yeah!” I gave him a sarcastic grin. “So don’t even bother.”
Josh pointed to his chest. “So what you’re saying is that you don’t want to fuck me and run your hands over this?”
I glimpsed at the perfection that was his chiselled pectoral muscles and the ink that decorated his left shoulder and bicep. “Nn… no, I don’t,” I answered, my stutter sounding unconvincing, even to myself.
“I think you do.”
“Look, I’ll admit that you’re very nice to look at. Of course you are. You have to be. You’re a male revue performer. But that doesn’t mean I want to jump into bed with you.”
“Who said anything about a bed, Sweetheart. I can fuck you free-standing.”
The thought of that set off my clitoral alarm clock and awoke my pussy.
“You can also fuck yourself free-standing,” I retorted, shifting in my seat and ignoring the buzzing between my legs. “Unlike you, I prefer one sexual partner, to give myself to someone who appreciates me and only me. You? You give yourself more than Santa gives presents.”
Josh bit the end of his ice cream cone. “Santa isn’t real.”
“You’re really annoying,” I blurted out, frustrated over everything about him, especially the biting of the end of his ice cream cone. That shit pisses me off.
“You’re a virgin, aren’t you? That’s why you don’t want to fuck me like all the others do.”
“That’s it!” I said, standing up and brushing the sand off my shorts. “I’m out of here.”
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of, Sweetheart. At one point you have to eventually say goodbye to your virtue. Might as well be now … with me.”
Standing above him, I ran my hands through my hair with frustration. “I’m not a virgin, Josh. I’ve fucked before … many times. And stop calling me sweetheart.” Bending over, I picked up my camera and camera bag. “And why am I even explaining myself to you?”
“You’re hot when you’re bitchy.”
“Fuck you,” I spat out, angry with myself for taking his salty, slimy bait.
“See? I knew you wanted to.”
Growling, I turned and walked away.
“Next time you growl, Sweetheart, you’ll be doing it with my cock between your legs,” he called out.
Raising my hand, I flipped him the bird without even looking back.
An amused chuckle, followed by “See you on Wednesday” was his only response.

Kristine's Review:

Reviewed: March 2015.

I thought I couldn't possibly feel anything more for Martin and Kaitlyn... How very wrong I was. I'm loving these two, and Reid pulls away the layers and we discover so much more about this pair, I find myself more and more invested, more intrigued, more desperate to know everything about them.

Heat picks up right where Attraction left off, with Kaitlyn navigating this house party desperate to hide away, both her heart and herself. After witnessing something that confirms for her that she gave her trust too willingly, she's left feeling alone and full of regrets. When Martin eventually finds her and they have a chance to discuss what happened we as the reader finally believe these two might have a chance at discovering what this is between them. Do I sound deliberately vague? That's because I am, this is story you need to experience for yourself, you need to feel every little nuance of the story as Reid pulls you in and demands your attention.

What I'm loving so much about this story is the growth we see in Kaitlyn, this quiet, reserved girl is blossoming before our eyes, she's finding the strength to say what she thinks, be damned the consequences. Martin has the kind of volatile strength to over run Kaitlyn's quieter sensibilities, but as he learns to pull back and think more about how he effects those around him, Kaitlyn is learning to voice her thoughts and be stronger in the knowledge that her opinions matter. She's the kind of female character I adore as she opens herself up to the experience of discovering who she is and what she wants to be.

Penny Reid once again you hold me captive with your words, you have drawn me in and I don't even want to let go, waiting almost desperately to see where you take this story next.

Breaking Noah by Missy Johnson & Ashley Suzanne - Review

Release Date: 12th May 2015.

What happens when you start falling for your worst enemy? Fans of Abbi Glines and Monica Murphy will relish this addictive novel of smoking-hot seduction—and revenge gone so wrong, it’s right.

I wasn’t always this jaded. I had a clear head, things I wanted out of life, and a concise plan on how to get there. For being only twenty-one, I pretty much had it all figured out. Until the day my cousin died.

I spent months going over all the details surrounding her death, trying to figure out how I missed the signs, and the only thing I could come up with was she would still be alive if it wasn’t for one person: her professor. So I transferred to his college, enrolled in his class, and set my new plan in motion.

First I’ll seduce him. Then I’ll ruin him. I’ve just got to stay strong and not let his charm and my emotions get the best of me. Because someone has to pay for her death. If it’s the last thing I do, I’m going to break Noah.

Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

Kristine's Review:

Reviewed: February 2015.
 Rating: 3.5 Lipsticks

I have been a huge fan of Missy Johnson for quite a while now, her words, her stories, the world she creates, the way her characters embed themselves into my heart and her stories jump off the page. The premise of the Breaking Noah intrigued me, it was a little darker then previous works by Johnson and I was excited to see what Ashley Suzanne and Missy Johnson created together.

Zara had always planned on moving to Northwestern to join her cousin, Karly, the two of them share a bond more akin to sisters, but when her cousin unexpectedly commits suicide, and Zara learns the reason was a torrid affair with a someone who should of been off limits, Zara's reason for moving is now steadily ground in revenge and not in furthering her studies. She is single minded in her obsession, she will seduce lecturer Noah and she will out him for all the hurt he brought upon Karly in her far too short life.

Zara isn't the only one hiding secrets, as she moves forward with her plan to bring down the one person who lead to her cousins demise, all may not be as it seems, secrets and lies are everywhere she turns and the people she least expects may have more to do with the wrong she's trying to right.

For me this story was very much Zara's vehicle, as she puts her plan into action to seduce and uncover Noah's secret, she soon realises she wants him in a way she didn't think she would, she wants his time, not just his body, the more she gets to know, the less she can believe he could be capable of hurting the person she was closest to in this world.

While this story held me captive at times, I was intrigued by this slightly darker, suspense filled tale, but I found it difficult to connect as times, the writing felt different than what I was used to, and as much as I wanted to be invested, I struggled to find that connection with Noah and Zara. While I enjoyed the story, and felt that familiar pull and zing at times, I never truly felt like I was drowning in the world Ashley and Missy created despite how much I wanted to. Breaking Noah was an enjoyable read for me, and I would pick up other titles co written by Johnson and Suzanne in the future.
