Jockblocked (Gridiron #2) by Jen Frederick - Review

Blurb:

She’s always played it safe…

College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?

He’s always played around…

Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

Kristine's Review:
Reviewed: January 2016.

Everything about Lucy Washington's perfectly constructed life means that she might just be the worlds best planner, she's reached expert level when it comes to calculating risks and making wise decisions, none of those include the devilishly sexy Matthew Iverson, Lucy has her days planned out, hell she's got her future mapped out, and Matthew is just another jock on the football team, who has women falling at his feet and gets away with everything due to his sportsgod status, he's a perfect example of a bad risk assessment, with warnings from her closest childhood friend and teammate, she's sure nothing good could come from becoming his friend, despite the physical attraction she feels.

Matty has never been one to rest on his laurels, with hours dedicated to practice on the field and study off of it, he's made it his life's mission to pay his dues for everything he achieves. People like to assume that he's had his life handed to him, correcting that assumption has never really been high on his list of priorities until Lucy Washington crossed his path. Mounting pressure from his coach, the need to ensure his team is fighting fit, and ready for another championship add to his already heavy load, but for the first time in a long time his main focus a girl that there's more to him that meets the eye, that he's the kind of man worth taking a risk on.

"This is ordinary to him and the risk list I've been adding to - the one with all the pictures of his past liaisons, the one scribbled with the warnings of Ace - starts to look badly imbalanced."

Jockblocked was a fun, easy read, with equal balance between heat, humour and heart, it was the perfect way to squirrel away a Summer afternoon.  The connection between Matty and Lucy was believable and honest, this tale of college football, best laid plans and risk assessments, of the things you find when you step outside your comfort zone, of the friends you make, and the ones you lose.
Matty's self assuredness, his ability to know almost immediately what he wanted and was determined to get it, made him even more endearing, while Lucy's continual need to prep and plan and think everything through balanced them for me, bringing an dynamic to them that made me want to climb into the book and hug them while simultaneously slapping them silly.
Frederick had me smiling and giggling and swooning through out, where I struggled with Sacked this was a much stronger read for me, I was easily able to read this in one sitting, and didn't find my attention wavering,  Jockblocked was a great break from heavier titles, with a great blend of everything you expect from a College romance, and if you're looking for something light and fun, something a little bit sexy with a nice balance of heart you won't go wrong here.
